This is where I go when I want to eat more vegetables, and enjoy it. The buffet line of meat, veggies, spices and sauces is great, just fill up your bowl (over the top, careful with the egg) and head over to the grill. Watch the show, claim your creation and dig in. Pretty simple. I create something tasty about 80% of the time. It isn't BD's fault I mess up on occasion. This is a fun place for the family who isn't intimidated by making or assembling their meal. Kids really seem to have a good time. Just don't go here thinking it will be the best Asian/Chinese meal ever, it isn't.

Different. Enjoyable. Despite being extremely pissed off the day I went here, I much rather enjoyed the food. They cook your food in front of you but boy do they take long. You pick your raw meat and noodles with the preferences of your choice. Andddd that's pretty much it...

Very good place for family with kids to come so good food and they eat what they want and cook the way they like, but if your kids not finish you pack home so they eat later too. Every time I come I love to eat meat only so I pay for my price to eat not expensive to cheap to me.

We had gone there several years ago and I was not impressed, yet when it was suggested this time - it sounded like a good option to give it another shot. I am really glad we did. The service was great and the food was really good. I enjoyed the cooks and how well they monitor and call people up. The flavors were good. My only complaint was that I feel they overcooked my chicken a little - it was way too dry to eat and enjoy, so I wasted the chicken and don't really like wasting food. I guess the one suggestion I wish they had (and maybe I do but didn't see it) was suggestions on how to mix the sauces. I tend to like a combination of spicy and sweet and while my first plate was good - my second had a weird taste I wasn't expecting. The only reason I am not giving all 5 stars is because of the selection - not enough variety of noodles - I like mine a little thicker and not rice noodles. I also wish much of the meat was frozen like it tends to be at huhots - I just think it's a little safer. This is definitely a place I will visit next time I am in KC.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! It is a little on the pricey sidr for us but anytime we have a little extra to spend we go here. Or when they have deals like eating free on ur bday and on Wednesday if u bring ur student ID you get a discount. Anyway, main reason we started going here is for my fiance and his love for scallops. Since its a buffet he can eat s lot of it. I love the how the restaurant is set up except for the end of the buffet there is no where to set ur bowl when u put the seasonings on it. WE LOVE IT AND WE GO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

BD's used to be one of my favorite places to eat. I am never very good at making a good bowl, but I still used to love the experience, until the last time I are there. Let me tell you a story. It was a pleasant warm Sunday, and nothing sounded better than some good ol' BD's. I made a Beef dish with pasta noodles and Teriyaki sauce mix, along with some pineapple and baby corn. It was pretty tasty, if I do say so myself. Our service was prompt, and the server was not bad. All in all, an okay experience, until the fun started the next morning... I have not seen that much brown, since I visited the UPS headquarters. I want to try and keep this as PG as possible, so I will try to spare the nitty gritty details. I had to push back my flight for the next day, because of my new porcelain friend, did not want me to leave it's side. I made friends with many other porcelain chairs, during my week of travel. Planes, airports, hotels, offices, I did not discriminate who or when I visited (I travelled the entire time with my new boss. Pretty awkward conversation trying to explain my frequent trips). Finally after 10 days the immense need to visit the bathroom frequently, my nightmare ended. I am seeing a therapist for the PTSD I developed in the process (this part is a joke, PTSD is a serious disease). All in all, I survived the experience, and appreciated life more afterwards, due to the fear that I would never have a normal digestive system again. I would encourage you to just skip this jewel altogether.

This place is fun for anyone who likes to eat. Especially if you're picky or like to play with your good. I would suggest well behaved children be brought here, because it's fun to build your meals and watch them be cooked, but it is an environment with food all over the place, so I would say be careful with more rowdy children. Easy place to take lots of people and have everyone leave happy.

I went here for the first time and was fairly impressed. Maybe not the place for someone who doesn't like adventurous foods or Chinese food. I like to eat different things though and thought it was delicious. You can create your own Chinese dish and watch them cook it around a neat grill. The bowl they give you to fill up looks small at first but it's really enough food for most people. (Of course you can always pay extra for more bowls.) i recommend putting noodles on last so you can pile you bowl high though. Food was amazing but I had the impression it would be cheaper especially considering it's not a fancy restaurant by any stretch of the imagination and you do half of the food preparation yourself. Seemed a little over-priced but was a wonderful meal

I can't think of a better restaurant. My family used to joke with me telling me I should just work there, since I go there so much. It's really not the classiest place to take a date, but it's a fun and good energy place. You also get to choose the amount of food you want and you customize it yourself! All the way from the meats and veggies to the sauces! Great service, very helpful especially when you don't know what you're doing because you've never been there before. Their drinks are pretty good, too!

The food was good, but EXTREMELY overpriced. The only reason we came here tonight was because Genghis Grill on 119th closed down. $13 a bowl. $10 at lunch. Same food, just more expensive at dinner. It's $9 after tax at Genghis. On top of it being just downright overpriced, the bar was sticky, the handles for the food were sticky and the tables were sticky. I wish Genghis was still open.

BD's isn't bad, but I've had much better Mongolian BBQ. Genghis Grill is much better, but alas, its KC locations have gone out of business. Meat, veggie and sauce choices are adequate, but not great. The food isn't always fresh and not always of the best quality. Service is generally pretty good. I've been to BD's three times and each time the restaurant was unclean - food strewn about around the food bar area and around the tables. Also, the prices are high compared to similar places.

This place has some of the worst service I've ever seen in any restaurant. If they don't mess up cooking your bowl which you prepare, the food is absolutely fine. We arrived, were seated, and eventually the waitress arrived with bowls for us to put our food in. She took our drink orders and promptly left. She only returned to the table one time more on her own accord. Our drinks were constantly empty, and once we finished the first bowl (which the cooking people mixed up with another persons by the way), we were given our check. We said we were doing the "all you can eat" and they completely forgot. We had to go towards the back and notify her if we wanted another bowl, a drink refill, or if we had any questions. All in all, it was one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. Won't be going back.

It offers great food with amazing service. Interior is spacious and inviting. You can chose from a variety of meat ,vegetables, noodles and spices to get them stir fried. Need to be little careful while choosing spices, some of them are quite spicy but they are clearly marked. So it's advisable that you read while selecting you spices and sauces. Price is quite reasonable one person can eat generously with beer for $20.

Really a fun place to eat and hang out with friends. Lots of food, salad, deserts, and full bar - The first time you go here, you may find it odd to see a full bar of raw vegetables and uncooked meats. I myself was slightly taken back. BUT, after you select your food, just take it to the back where it is cooked hot right in front of you. It is fun to watch the guys crack jokes, sing and move in a circle while cooking your food. - food bar has a nice selection of meats, vegetables, spices and salad. - salad bar is extra - table service is good. I've only had one bad experience over the last 6 years. - i do hate that your food can get mixed together with your 'stove neighbors' food. When the guys cook they are sloppy so you can get bits of food from neighboring plates mixed in with yours. THE FIX... Tell them you have an allergy and they will put up a metal guard around your food. Really I hate living about this but it ticks me off how sloppy it can get. I wish it would be standa - Tortillas, Lettie's wraps, and white or brown rice available with meal. Just tell the waitress when they take your drink orders. - Don't get hung up with BD's dish suggestions. Just get what you want and you will be happy. The recipe cards are really just suggestions. - small lobby so call ahead if you have a big party. - My one complaint is the noise level. It... is... Loud! Seriously, If they put up some soft materials on the wall, ceiling it would make the place much quieter. This is a bad thing for large groups as you are soon forced to shout just to be heard. But that said, if you come during the off hours, less people will be there and thus less noise. I dinged one star for this issue. - good parking... though construction is occurring near the store which could yield more traffic later.

I understand it is a chain restaurant and I understand it lacks a certain level of authenticilty. I also know for 10 bucks at lunch, it is a lot better than running home for a Lean Pocket. I first ate here 6 or 7 years ago, and it has become a favorite due to convenience and the newness that is offered by choosing your own food. I have always found that the service is good, not great, but again I set appropriate expectations. Maybe I am just a sucker for subtle entertainment, but I love watching my food cook. Overall, it is a fun little restaurant across from the Mall and sure beats the food court.

I could have used a better variety of noodles to include in the stir fries. The veggie and meats selections were great though. The sauce bar, with spices, were extensive and easy to mix up. The grill staff was nice, courteous, but not really inclusive and engaging per say of customers. The food though, the flavors, were good and we enjoyed our meals. The service was alright but our lady was loud and sort of in our faces. I know it came from a good place but it was a tad overwhelming.

I don't come here to have drinks and hang out. If I did then this place wouldn't be getting 5 stars from me right now. However, seeing that I come here to eat a giant bowl of grilled steak, noodles, veggies, eggs, etc. this place fits the bill quite nicely. Service has always been attentive, the grillers do an excellent job, and the plates always come out nice. Another nice thing about this place is that they offer "mini" deserts, which are about the only thing I could HOPE to finish the meal off with. More restaurants should try that idea.

This may be the best place to go if you have a bunch of people with different diet preferences. Veggie, gluten free, low carb, doesn't care and will eat it all, this is your place! I like the build your own meal, although I get a little queasy after Jack Jr has been through the food before me. I just remind myself it is going on a really hot grill! Instead of looking at a menu and being forced to what the restaurant feels are the best combos, if you want pork and scallops or whatever, it works! The meat and seafood selection is good. And after that if you have room or you are one of those veggie types, they have a very nice selection of veggies to complete your grill. Then you get to choose your flavor, sweet, sour, spicy, strong, mild, it is all there. If your meal is bad, next time pick a card to learn how to build something. :) Moving onto the grill, the fun starts. The grillers are always lively and entertaining. They seem to have fun with their job although it has to be hot and demanding, especially when busy. Great job! I have never had poor service from the wait staff. Always smiles and making sure they take care of you without being over bearing. Bd's definitely hires the right people for all positions!

Really enjoy coming here! The variety of meats and veggies they offer are amazing. My favorite part of this experience is the excitment that the grillers have, it looks like a very hot job, but they always look like they are haveing a great time. Think it's funny when the wait staff will ask if everything tastes ok, becuase if it doesn't isn't your fault. Love the atmosphere!!! In my top 3!!

It was lousy. For two people out bill was 45 dollars and we got two bowls and an appetizer. Oh my god don't even get me started about the rice it was absolutely DISGUSTING it was all dry am it might has well been a ball of starch. Our waitress took the check with the not so good tip on it before we even left. I just can't look at meat frozen and raw like that. It can't be very safe. The worst feeling is when you get home I have never had a worse sharp pain in my stomach as long as I have lived. Go out to a real restaurant for 45 bucks. Please.

I was craving Mongolian for a couple months, and I talked Roshelle into going with me after Yoga. I didn't hate Bd's, but I've had better Mongolian. I was comparing to HuHot as another chain Mongolian, and personally I prefer HuHot. I found that for just one pass at the grill the price was outrageous. The fact that people actually pay more for multiple passes seems crazy. For a Monday night dinner with only water I paid 17 with tip. That's for one person, and only one pass! If you are going to charge that much make it multiple passes at the buffet, because those are all you can eat buffet prices. Would I use multiple passes? Probably not, but it would be nice to have a cheaper option for those of us who do only pass the line once. They had pretty much the same meat and veggie options that HuHot does, but the sauces were done differently. I liked that they had some minced garlic to throw in there, but I felt like the premade sauces were lacking for me. Overall I probably wouldn't go back unless someone wanted to go. I won't be the one asking though.

This is probably one of my favorite Mongolian BBQ chains. With a never ending variety of meats, veggies, sauces and spices. The flavor stops at your imagination. Like most other restaurants you receive a bowl once you sit down. The bowls are small to get you into wanting to go for the all you can eat. But with proper planning and stacking, the bowl is just fine. The meat selection is usually very nice, sometimes the beef looks a little funky, but I'm a chicken and shrimp guy so it doesn't bother me. Next in line comes the veggies, a wide assortment of fresh cut veggies to please your appetite. This is where stacking comes into play. I usually go for the zucchini/squash as a solid base, then stack with the thinner items and finishing up with broccoli. Next comes the sauces, they have everything from sweet and savory, to some heat! I usually change it up and so with a ladle of teyraki and the asain chili. I have tried the fajita, mushroom, garlic. All the sauces are delicious. Remember to put the sauce into the cup and not in your bowl. Finally comes the spices and fresh garlic and raw egg. I usually just sprinkle some seasoning salt and cayne in the sauce and carry the raw egg up to the counter. The staff working the wok are always friendly and chatty. If i get noodles, i like them a little burnt and they always work my special orders in. If you haven't been here before remember to get to the right of the next person in the wok line, if no one is there, then just walk all the way to the right hand side. Also if you have food allergies, remember to tell them! They have a separate wok for allergies or for veggie people. Parking is always easy since they have there own lot. There is a wall by the restroom that has recipes in case your having a creation block. Just go and have fun, and don't forget the 3.50 margaritas :)

I enjoy Mongolian barbeque and BD's Mongolian Barbeque is a good place to enjoy it. It's located right across the street from Oak Park Mall and is a good place to quench your hunger after a full afternoon of shopping. Like many Mongolian restaurants, you are given a bowl when you are seated and then are instructed to walk through the meat and vegetable bars, a perpetual frozen buffet line if you will, where your food awaits. There are plenty of options for your bowl including meats such as steak, pork and chicken, seafood such as scallops, shrimp and calamari and vegetables such as onions, tomatoes, water chestnuts, carrots and mushrooms. After you've decided what you want in your bowl then you walk over to the sauce bar. The sauce bar provides you a gracious amount of options for you to mix and match your sauces to achieve the perfect flavor. It's a little bit of an upsell, but soup is offered on the side and the Beer Cheese soup is tasty. Now you might want to watch the cooks a little when they cook up your order in front of you. They can over cook it a little bit. The rice that the server brings for you to mix in can also be a little dry, like it's been precooked and sitting for a little bit. Also, because this is a chain, the restaurant floor plan can be a little tight and sometimes when the place is busy you can feel like you are sitting at your neighbor's table. That said, every time I have been here the service has been attentive and professional. The prices are reasonable as well. My check was a little over $13. I will return.

This is the very best Mongolian BBQ restaurant. They have the best products and largest selection of meats, veggies, seasonings, and sauces. Nice place, great staff, and like I said the best food. I could eat here everyday honestly.

The staff are friendly, the grillmasters are consistent, and the food is great! Learn to build a house of cards, play Jenga, or stack pencils end-to-end before you go. There is an art to stacking the most food into the bowl as you can.

  • April C.

The selection of vegetables, meats, and spices are always fresh and refilled consistently. The team of employees at the flat-top grill are entertaining and extremely quick. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you receive; it costs about $19 for two people if you get the stir-fry single bowl. The only area where improvement may be needed is with the wait staff. It seems to take a bit of time for them to check on your table or refill your rice. Other than that minor complaint, this is a great spot for a delicious lunch!

My review update changes little from my last review, only to add that the service is noticeably up. Not only are the chefs super friendly while you are watching your food cook, not only was my waitress always nearby, not only were nearly all the food trays full, but management was constantly hovering, making sure the lunchtime madness didn't turn into chaos. Nice job guys.

Ambiance-2 Stars Service- 2 Stars Price- 2 Stars Ingredients-4 Stars The ingredients were the highlight of this meal. The seafood appeared fresh, with no fishy odor. There was a large variety of ingredients to choose from, to create your very own stir fry concoction. I do have to say that I would prefer that Paul Bunyan was not allowed to chop the veggies. The jalapeño slices were the size of a mini doughnut, only not nearly as enjoyable! There were a myriad of sauces and spices to enable you to put the final touch on your personal masterpiece. Then, unfortunately you handed off your bowl to unmotivated grill tenders who focused on quantity on the grill as opposed to quality of stir frying my aforementioned masterpiece! ***TIP*** add some liquid to your bowl of ingredients. This will facilitate the cooking, otherwise everything will just burn from lack of attention by the grill tenders, and still not be cooked sufficiently. Another nice benefit that they offer is a choice of White or brown rice, tortillas, or lettuce wraps, or any combination there of. I thought the prices were a little steep for what you got. $13.49 for a single stirfry bowl, $14.49 for a single stirfry bowl plus soup and salad, or $15.99 all you can eat stirfry and soup and salad. Soft drinks are extra. This meal for two ran us $40 including tax. For my money, I would prefer to go to Genghis Khan.

I love the food! It's all amazing, but it's way over priced. I rarely go here as it's almost twice the price of Panda Express, it's much better and of course Stir Fry, not Chinese, but the price is high. Here's a tip, get your noodles last, you can pile them on high on top of all else, not vise versa.

Pretty darn good it is probably a 4 but since it's a chain and I don't run back every month I am going 3. But service is good. Atmosphere is nice and food is pretty tasty! If you like this type of food you will be very happy!

Fun casual place, good variety of ingredients for your bowl. Last time I was there, they had the usual sliced beef & chicken, shrimp, scallops, calamari, Italian sausage, and a whole lotta veggies from asparagus to zucchini.... some stuff you don't usually see on a grill.... at least 12 different pre-made sauces... so, yeah, plenty of variety. I'm with Stephen H though, I don't see why this merits three times the cost of a mom-and-pop Mongolian joint like you see in every strip mall in SoCal. The grill guys are noisy & fun, and will make a fuss over birthday celebrants. Service is attentive, but be aware there's an upcharge for a to-go box. If you get the all-you-can-eat (I never do, but the Guy has the appetite for it,) then power through that second bowl, get a third one, then take home your leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

i like this place a lot. but really, if you want true mongolian, go to ghenghis khan in the KU med area. nonetheless, i ate two plates, which is unusual for me. you get to pick your own pairings and add different sauces and spices as you wish. they cook it on the grill and then you're good to go. they get crowded at lunchtime, the service is GREAT and it's reasonbly priced.

  • James O.

As far as chain places goes, this one impresses. Word to the wise, if you have a problem with how the food tastes, you messed something up in the process. Decent selection of various materials to make your mongolian exp. exceptional. Strip steak, whole raw eggs, squid, Mahi mahi, as well as the old favorites. Can get kinda busy if you hit them at one of the rush times, but during an off time, no waiting at the grill, go nuts.

Used to be my favorite restaurant in Kansas City. Due to the slow decline of service and new fresh items over the years it has slowly declined in my all time favorites. Not to mention the fact that I now live in L.a. and have expierenced so many different flavors of awesomeness this place is bound to take a significant hit. Nonetheless, everytime I get off the Plane in Kansas City the first thing I do Is call my mom tell her I am safe and then i am off to Bd's. For a chain it is pretty awesome. I look forward to my December Visits

If you like paying $13.00 for 1 bowl of food then this is your place to go. I certainly do enjoy it. Although I am pretty basic in my mixture choices. Pasta noodles, chicken & shrimp (your only SUPPOSE to pick 1 meat, boy am I sneaky) all sorts of veggies and at this point you are wishing your bowl was bigger because now your pea pods are falling onto the floor. I enjoy spicy stuff so my sauce has the basic BBQ, teriyaki, and garlic then some cayenne to add the punch! It took me many tries to get the flavor I wanted and I do believe I have mastered it. Then you get into a line and hold your overflowing bowl and juggle your sauce so you don't look like a fool and drop the goodness waiting to happen. When the sweaty guy behind the counter takes your bowl and drops in onto the grill you watch these 5 or 6 people walk around to everyones helpings and dice, cut, stir, and fry! You do get slightly upset everytime they flip a piece of meat or any part of your meal into the center trash hole or the ground because earlier you wished your bowl was bigger and now here they are accidentaly wasting away your dinner. Finally once your meal is cooked (mine always is) one guy comes around and tries to be smooth while sliding your food off the grill into a bowl in one quick flying motion, nearly smacking you in the face. All very entertaining but at this point you are incredibly hungry and just want to eat. You try with the chopsticks for a couple goes but realize you just are not shoveling it in quite fast enough. They bring you tortillas, either white or fried rice, or both. Then you also come to terms with the fact that apparently food gets bigger as it cooks because what looked like not enough food earlier suddenly becomes that pain in your stomach after Thanksgiving Day. I do enjoy this place and although the wait is slightly painful, the ending is very pleasing. That is as long as you have mastered your sauce and the guys on the grill aren't showing off to much and under cooking your food! Enjoy!

Mongolian barbecue chain in the midwest. You know the routine--select meat, add vegetables, create sauce, give to griller. Basically can be unlimited. Just make it simple, and you should like it.

I went here with a co-worker and was pleased with the meal in general, though it was a bit more expensive than other Mongolian BBQs that I've been to. The Atmosphere of this place is ok, it's fairly crowded and a tad loud, but they do have TVs with the news on for your entertainment while you eat. The servers are pleasant and the environment is fairly clean. My co-worker told me that he, in the past, has taken clients to BDs for lunch / dinner so it seems like a good enough place for an activity such as that. The service was a little lacking. Our waitress didn't seem to be all together there in her job. Having said that the interaction we had with her was friendly. The wait for refills on drinks was a bit long, and the wait for the two trips to get out checks was rather long. She appeared to be covering four tables during the lunch rush hour, so that may have been what the delay was about. The grill operators were fairly cursory in their interactions, but cooked the food very well. The facilities seemed to be clean enough. Someone had dropped their cup of sauce at the buffet, but the staff got it cleaned up very quickly and were quick to make everyone aware of the area affected. Tables were cleaned off quickly after customers had finished their meals, and all of the cutlery and plate ware and glassware were all clean when they were given. The food was good and cooked well by the grill operators. The scallops and squid that I got were cooked to perfection, which I find to be somewhat rare. The selection of items to put in your bowl was rather extensive and I felt quite nice. The seasonings I though were comparable to most other Mongolian BBQ places that I've been to. The only thing I found to be somewhat lacking was their sauce choices. They have a large number of sauces to choose from, however unlike a lot of the Mongolian BBQ places I've been to most of these sauces were premade premixed concoctions so you couldn't really choose for example the heat level or flavors involved with your sauce. Having said that, I did enjoy what I ended up with. All in all it was a pretty good lunch experience. I had one bowl and one iced tea for a grand total of $12.47. Like I said it was a bit more than typical Mongolian BBQs that I've been to considering that they charge you per bowl, but by no means was it a bad experience. I'd go back to BDs, but it won't be a staple for me.

  • Shana M.

Very disappointed! With every other Mongolian barbecue I have been to, everything was included in the price of the meal. With this one they charged additionally for everything except for the bowl of whatever concoction you chose to make. More than one bowl cost extra. Salad bar cost extra. All of the usual items like egg rolls, dumplings, crab Rangoon...cost extra. The meat section of the food bar had the raw meat next to the raw seafood. They food bar was a mess and items were all mixed in with each other. Our server took our drink orders and asked if we would like to order rice and what kind. We ordered two sodas and white rice and were brought 2 waters and brown rice. Server was not apologetic at all. Was very poor. We normally tip very well. This was first time I can think of we actually just tiled 10 percent. The food itself was not that great. The beef tips were like stew meat. Will never go there again!

This is not our first trip to BDs. Smaller than usual number of cars in the parking lot. Perhaps that should have been a hint. The hostess seated us in the only crowded corner of the restaurant. Server was prompt, but things still went downhill. The ingredient bars were poorly stocked, no tofu at all. The guys at the grill haven't the slightest how to thoroughly cook the ingredients. The service...had to ask her to bring our drinks when she finally came back to the table (several bites into our meal) to see "how we were doing". How difficult can this job be, I ask. You bring bowls, drinks, side and check. When she realized, our check wasn't going to be more than cost of two bowls, she dropped it (the check) as we placed our forks on our plates. To bad our drinks weren't as quick. My guy and I are great tippers....when we feel the experience/service was great. Not sure this location deserves another chance.

The food is good. Nothing special but nothing horrible. Staff is nice. The pricing was a bit of a surprise. $13.49 for one bowl. Not saying that is outrageous but then looking at the size of the bowl, I felt a little ripped off, especially compared to the size plate the grilled food is placed on and also, the ~5% waste from the grill that doesn't make it to your plate (sorry to get a little technical). Thinking about the unlimited bowl price of $15.99, I decided to fill my first bowl with a hefty amount unlike the other people with a pile of food who you could tell wanted to make one bowl count. After my first bowl, I still was not completely filled up and decided, for $2 extra, I'll just satisfy my hunger completely like any other restaurant and take the last bit home. After eating about half of my second bowl, i hit the point to where it was time to ask for the check and a To-go box. Once the check was dropped off, I evaluated it and realized that not only was I charged the $1.50 for unlimited bowls, but also another $2.99 for a "add doggie bag" charge... This left me shocked. I asked the waitress if that charge was correct and if they were indeed charging me to take my leftovers home. THEY WERE!! I asked the waitress that if I didn't take my food home, if I would be charged and she said no...wait, all stop....so you are going to charge me extra to take food I have already paid for home, after I upgraded to unlimited bowls anyways? And if I don't take it home, you're just going to throw it away? Until someone explains to me the reasoning behind their business model, I will not be returning. I understand if someone ate a plate and a half then went and got another full bowl just to take home, would be a good example of unlimited bowl abuse and should be charged but when I legitimately just wanted to be filled and not go home hungry, I get charged money. Either the prices need to be lowered in order to keep this foolish charge or it needs to be completely taken off before I will come back.

A Place where you choose what you want and how you want. Grab a bowl and your adventure begins. You can start filling it up with your choice of noodles, veggies and meat, add an egg to it if u like. Choose from a variety of sauces- super hot to mild, you can mix up the sauces to suit your taste buds. Take it to grill and let the chefs do their thing. If you have a small stomach like me and can't eat for more than one sitting. You have the option of going for one trip which will cost you less.

I've been to a dozen or so different Mongolian Grills, but this was my first (and last) "BDs" experience. Where to begin... very poor selection of vegetables, tiny bowls, scant salad bar selections, but most incredible - premixed sauces! This negates the very concept of a Mongolian Grill, which is that you customize the dish to your own taste! Also, they cook (or rather char) the meats and veggies that you choose without the sauce anyway, only adding the sauce flavorings at the end, so there is no amalgamation of flavors at all! It hardly matters that a full third of the ingredients were burned beyond edibility, or that the tea choices to accompany this asian food were limited to Earl Grey and Constant Comment! We've seldom had to go to a second restaurant to get something to take the taste of dinner out of our mouths, but that happened here. Good Luck if you are "brave" enough to try this chain, but rest assured, there are far better Mongolian choices available locally.

I think I tend to like the idea of dining here a little more than I end actually liking the experience of eating here, but I'm usually leaving full so I can't complain too much. This place seems like something I should love. Pay a flat fee and load up a bowl with a bunch of different ingredients, they cook it all up and you feast on the results. You start with a base of noodles or rice and then you get a bowl that you fill from a bar that is basically like a salad bar. There are a variety of meats, veggies, etc. and they all seem like they are a good quality, which is good. I'm kind of hesitant to to pick certain things like chicken or things that i worry could end up a little undercooked. Maybe that's on me. Anyway, my issue is I try to pace myself when picking things but end up only picking the same 4 meats and veggies every time because nothing else seems like a good mix or just aren't up my alley. maybe I'm just too picky. After picking your bowl of stuff and a sauce, they grill it up on a giant grill and then give you your bowl of cooked whatever. You can get bottomless bowls or 2 trip options and stuff like that but usually one trip is enough for me. I feel like the cost is much more on your side if you can stomach more than 1 trip but I just don't have the appetite to pull that off. So I end up thinking that the meal I get is a touch overpriced when it is all said and done. The service always is fine and the restaurant is clean and all that. It's a good option from time to time but not something I'd want to really do all that frequently.

Came here a few days ago despite many poor reviews. We came for an early dinner (around 4:30) and they were not very busy, however there were still a number of guests dining, and more arrived during our visit. The service was excellent; our waitress was attentive and accommodating. The food bar was well stocked and the items seemed fresh. There was a fair selection of meats, vegetables, sauces, and spices; and the "cooks" were pleasant and entertaining. Overall, while not the best Mongolian BBQ experience we've had, it was still a pleasurable dining experience.

I don't like waiting for food but when there are others involved I try not to complain too much while waiting for a table. If you go here for dinner on a weekend you are in for a wait. The lunch prices are better and it's not as crowded. Anyway, this place is pretty fun if you like making a big mess and not having to clean it up... and if you like experimenting but not being forced to eat the disaster you just made. After a few mess ups most people figure out what they like. I really like to have that egg cracked in there... don't forget the egg. They used to have server recommended mixtures. Now they just have a few lame cards out for reference. Speaking of the days of old, they used to have flavored oils, but I guess people were opting not to use oil so they had to take that luxury away from us due to too many grill scorches. I tend to stick with seafood... I just reach for it every time. It's hard to develop a taste for the food because it varies so much... you aren't really satisfying a craving but an urge to be creative. It's more like going to paint pottery than a dining experience. Some people are really good at painting pottery though and this is your time to shine. If you just can't get it right or the food makes your belly hurt (not uncommon) then stick with the soup and salad. So, go do it! It's fun! Also, the desserts are really good. The salad bar is lacking but the buffet has good variety. It's a gamble, tossing this and that in if you're not sure how the flavors will taste together. If you're not into trying new combinations this may not be the place for you as the buffet is the main attraction. Despite it having a buffet, I always seem to leave this place still hungry.

Nice, big variety of ingredients to choose from. Have a plan going in. It's easy to throw a bunch of stuff in your bowl and before you know it, the flavors get muddied. If you care about that sort of thing, have a plan. They even encourage this, suggesting folks select one meat, a few spices, etc. They never brought the tortillas I ordered. To the waitress's credit, she was stretched a little, covering quite a large section. The manager was visible and talking to folks, which I noticed and appreciated. The cooks always try a little too hard to be cool- the excitement of making food in front of folks perhaps.;) Pretty solid experience. I have yet to go and not enjoy the food.

The fish is old and slimy. The rice is microwaved. The noodles are slimy as well but also like rubber bands. The Tofu is sitting in water, which needs to be dry to stir fry. It feels like a corporate food mill in here. Would not recommend this place to anyone to eat unless you want to get sick from the poor food standards. They also sat us right next to the bathroom/kitchen (why they put both entrances in the same location is beyond me).

Umm...surely Kansas-ians (?) know this is not authentic, right? I'm pretty sure Polish sausage is not part of the Mongolian diet. Though I could be wrong. Despite the details, this place is kinda tasty. I opted out of the meat--handling raw meat makes me nauseous, but still managed to overfill my bowl with veggies (small bowls maybe?). I made a sauce out of chili, teriyaki, and lemon--not bad, except I realized I was supposed to put it in a separate dish instead of drizzle it over my heaping bowl. This explained why it had such a mild flavor... The salad bar was a bit better than average, not spectacular but fresh. And really, its only a dollar more to add a salad and soup, which is pretty cheap these days. They also had the whole selection of Jones soda, which I'm a fan of pure cane soda's, and they proudly serve Starbuck's (another Mongolian favorite I'm assuming). This place was alright, but I'm not sure if I would come back willingly...

Eh, this place really bugs me. The price is a ripoff unless you plan on gorging yourself for $2 extra. They put the meat and noodles first on the bar, which is a ripoff since those are the two easiest things to stack on at the end...although I'm betting most people who frequent this place eat mostly meat and noodles. I threw up a little in my mouth when I saw the tray of cut polish sausage. I also like how easy it is to eat a Mexican-style meal at a Mongolian barbecue. I wanted to shove those metal sticks the grillers use up their asses because THEY NEVER STOP BANGING. The one nice thing I'll say is that our waitress hooked me up in the water department after I created a napalm death sauce on my plate. I drank a glass and ate half my ice, so she refilled me. 2 minutes later, I drank that and chewed the rest of my ice. She then brought out a new cup of ice and filled both my cups with water. Cheers to her, whatever her name was.

I lived at 119th and Quivera in an apartment complex when this place opened in the late 90s. I became a huge convert of this place. I would eat hear lunch time at least once a week at some point and then a little less as we moved to Lawrence, and now it it is only a treat I get when we visit family as there are none near me. Since they can 'do no wrong' in my line of thinking this is my favorite type of mongolian place. Probably because it's not 'real' in that they carry a wide variety of stuff vs. the more traditional places for both sauces, spices, and food you can use. I've watched them change their style from grab your own bowl and fill it with oil, sauces, food, with different colors for allergies, meat, or veggie, and then now the newer style where the dump the sauce on at the last minute. As a whole I'm a fan of the chain in general and have eaten at one in Lexington, KY and a Detroit, MI suburb and for me the style of the restaurant is my favorite. I've never had a problem at this location and for the style of cooking they do a good job. I tend to make my stuff too hot for me and give them a run for their money keeping my iced tea full and they've always been good service wise.

I started coming here after my weight loss surgery as my diet was a meat only. I advise anyone to only come here before lunch 4pm. Paying more for the same meal is just dumb. My recent visit they had changed things up a bit. No longer are the bowls out for picking. Your server has to bring you one. Crap! The reason given was the bowls were not getting totally cleaned and this way your server can make sure your is. Yeah, ok. I believe the real reason is too many people were taking two bowls at once on their first and only trip. My roomie use to do this. If you go only one trip and have leftovers you are able to take them home. If you go more than twice, you can not. Well, lets just say my roomie always had plenty of leftovers. But in her defense she's a veggie addict (nicknamed rabbit). You can only get a couple broccolis in a bowl and you're done. Also they had replaced one of my favorite meats, lamb with their special Italian pickings. I did enjoy the Italian sausage replacement. They have appetizers now. I didn't try this and seems a little wasteful when you get a whole buffet meal. But what I know...? Now they also just give your hot tea in huge to-go coffee cup. Nice in not burning or spilling hot water from the tiny kettle. I have always loved the apple cobbler. Yum Yum! Don't ever take this away! Meh. Call me a food snob, but I guess I just don't like Mongolian BBQ as much as I used to as a kid. I remember visiting Bd's a long time ago as a child and being in love with the place. You mean I get to choose everything that goes into MY bowl AND watch the guys cook it?!?! Sweet! Hmm. As a 26 year old, the whole concept is not so sweet anymore. First of all, they give you a TINY bowl. I added just a tiny bit of meat so I could fit in more veggies, and I still wasn't able to add everything I wanted. I suppose I should have smashed it in more. My finished meal was decent. Not terrible, but not worth the $15 price tag, either. You've got to be kidding me! I don't understand the appeal of this place at all.

For about $10, you get a large bowl that you can fill with all sorts of meats, noodles, veggies, and sauces. They have a ton of options. If you are not up to choosing your own ingredians, they also have recipes for you to use. After you put your ingrediants into the bowl, the staff cooks it in front of you. The food there is delicious, and I believe you can also get unlimited bowls for something like three extra dollars.

Great variety of meats, veggies, sauces & spices. I like their mini desserts too. Just the right size after stuffing yourself. The bowls are on the small side though, especially compared to Great Khans, and you might end up waiting awhile for a table. They need those pagers so you can wander off and not lose your place in line.

This place was ok the first time we ate there, considering I'd never been before and love spicy things. Somehow, it seems to be a litte bit of a ripoff for the price. Like the others, I was a little taken aback by the polish sausages on the bar. Really? eww. We decided to give it another try for lunch one day since we had a spicy craving and just happened to be close. Again, the 2nd time was just ok, nothing special. I even tried to mix up a different flavor but somehow it still seemed to be lacking. It was ok but considering most couldn't even finish the first plate...I"m not sure its worth the extra cost of all you can eat either. We decided we'd been there, done that and most likely won't do it again. A-OK. That's it.

This is the absolute worst "mongolian grill" I have ever been to. Inside, it is basically a very low quality buffet with food that definitely does not taste or look fresh. The tofu was sitting in a tub of water - if you know anything about tofu prep, it is supposed to be pressed to REMOVE water, not immersed in it. The available sauces taste like something that might accompany a frozen dinner. The staff was inattentive and unprofessional, although it wouldn't surprise me if this place is unable to retain employees older than 17. I am never going back here.

Alright well I had a very hard time deciding how many stars to give because I have been here twice and the first time i went was amazing!!! Great food, the grillers made me laugh and they were awesome!!! Service was great, it made my entire night!! but the second time I went, the waitress was horrible! Had a hard time getting a drink refill and the worst part was from the time we got there till almost the end, three was a little girl about four years old running around the whole place jumping of the stairs, almost falling down the steps. I asked or server to please say something to the parents (who were sitting down eating) to get their child. Nothing was said to the parents at all until I had to stop eating and walk over to the parents and ask then to keep an eye on THEIR child before she got hurt myself! About two mins later she was up timing around again. I was so aggravated I couldn't finish my meal and left! I was just more upset that no one else like i don't know maybe the manager said something, especially after he saw me say something..

The quality of food and taste is heads above any other brand of "Mongolian BBQ." All places like this allow you to choose your veggies and protein and sauce/seasoning. But, the flavors and freshness of BD's is heads above any other Mongolian BBQ joint. Service is great. I have and would come back.

I'll never go to BD's Mongolian BBQ across from Oak Park Mall again. I saw one of the workers walk out of the bathroom after he took a dump. He didn't wash his hands. I then saw him carrying clean bowls out to customers. I couldn't get out of that place fast enough. The hostess didn't even seem concerned when I told her what I saw and why I was leaving.

How could I forget to write a review on this place? BD's is one of those places you go to if you have no stir-fry skills at home, require a truckload of meat in your diet, or when you are low on cash and need grub. The first time I came here I would have definately given it one star. The food was pretty screwed up as far as flavor and the meat was undercooked. (In regards to flavor, its partly my blame, I screwed up the seasonings by being "too experimental). Back to the undercooked thing. That was real. VERY real. The mental scars of the physical abdominal pain I endured are still fresh in my mind. I even remember telling my then fiancee, that the only resturant on this planet that I would never go to, under any circumstances, was BD's. Fast forward three years later. Large company sponsored lunch with about 16 people. Three things happened that forced me to go back: 1) No way I was going to be able to change the mind of 4 or 5 of these fellow meataterians, much less 16 of them. 2) Slept late and didn't have time to make lunch and bring it to the office. 3) Peer pressure. I was told I should "man up" and give it another chance. I mean, it's not like im being offered drugs or something right? Combine all three and you have the prefect storm. So off we went to BD's. The first thing I established was not to combine weird meats (Lamb/Chicken/Shrimp, that's a bit strange in one bowl). I stuck with the Lamb/Sirloin option. Threw in some veggies and two eggs. When approaching the grill, I asked for the food to be well-done. This prompted the cook to shout well-done, and all others shouted one by one the same. After receiving the food, I promptly used tortillas to dispose of it. I was actually impressed this time around with the taste of the food. This then motivated me to see what a "Mexican Fajita" deal would do. Again, it was equally as tasting. So memo to Kevin: Request well-done, don't combine weird meat combo's, & don't get too creative with sauce mixtures.

Well, it is not Stir Fresh Mongolian Grill, but it is a decent version. Portions were healthy and there was a nice variety of sauces to choose from. What I like best was the service. The servers were very attentive. I would eat there again. Nice place.

    (2)

    (1)
  • Allie M.

The staff are friendly, the grillmasters are consistent, and the food is great! Learn to build a house of cards, play Jenga, or stack pencils end-to-end before you go. There is an art to stacking the most food into the bowl as you can.

PS Sign up for "Club Mongo" and get a free meal for your birthday.

Well, it is not Stir Fresh Mongolian Grill, but it is a decent version. Portions were healthy and there was a nice variety of sauces to choose from. What I like best was the service. The servers were very attentive. I would eat there again. Nice place.

Overall, it is a fun little restaurant across from the Mall and sure beats the food court.

i like this place a lot. but really, if you want true mongolian, go to ghenghis khan in the KU med area. nonetheless, i ate two plates, which is unusual for me. you get to pick your own pairings and add different sauces and spices as you wish. they cook it on the grill and then you're good to go. they get crowded at lunchtime, the service is GREAT and it's reasonbly priced.

The staff are friendly, the grillmasters are consistent, and the food is great! Learn to build a house of cards, play Jenga, or stack pencils end-to-end before you go. There is an art to stacking the most food into the bowl as you can.

I love this place, great food. I love being able to pick and choose exactly what goes into my meal, from meats and vegetables to sauces and seasonings. Overall, a good restaurant experience.

Really enjoy this location. We fly all over the Country and usually try to find a BD's. It's kind of a weekend addiction. The location is always great, clean and friendly.

Overall, it is a fun little restaurant across from the Mall and sure beats the food court.

i like this place a lot. but really, if you want true mongolian, go to ghenghis khan in the KU med area. nonetheless, i ate two plates, which is unusual for me. you get to pick your own pairings and add different sauces and spices as you wish. they cook it on the grill and then you're good to go. they get crowded at lunchtime, the service is GREAT and it's reasonbly priced.
